Roger Ruffner, 66, couldn't wait to get his caffeine fix on Monday morning, and broke dozens of window panels at Hyperion Espresso during a strange scene that played out in the 300 block of William Street.
The incident was reported shortly before 3 a.m. on Nov. 4.
Upon arrival, police say that officers found Ruffner standing in front of the building, wearing a trash bag and holding a plastic pole and broomstick.
According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, Ruffner told the officers that he had broken the glass to protect himself, believing that he was being followed. He further advised that he intended to enter Hyperion Espresso to make himself a cup of coffee.
Despite the damage, the business reopened without incident once the area was cleaned up.
The Fredericksburg resident was arrested and held without bond after being charged with breaking and entering to commit larceny, as well as felony vandalism.
